We left the City of Rocks a day early because of incoming high winds, which are kind of scary in the RV, especially if you are driving. We headed to Papa Devine's house in Phoenix. Jerry is Matthew's fiance Elli's grandfather. He has a full hook up on his property. It worked out great! We got to spend time visiting with Jerry and catching up on RV maintenance that needed to be done. Lilly has found a new best friend! I requested that Jerry have a burro, a rattlesnake and a wild pig all come thru the backyard as we relaxed, but he was unable to produce this experience for me...maybe next time.

Jerry Devine, quite possibly one of the coolest octogenarians I have ever met. The fact that he had a full hook-up (electric, water and sewer) for our RV was just gravy. Could have spent hours talking to him about his RV experiences, his favorite places and just RV's in general... electric systems, maintenance, etc. I'm still learning RV life as we go here and the two and half days at Jerry's was like a Master's Program. I don't think he could have been a more congenial host for what were basically two strangers... although when we pulled onto his lot, his first comment was "are you the two crazy chickens I've been expecting", so we knew we liked him from the get go. Hopefully we'll get to go RVing with him at "The Slabs" sometime. Thanks for the great time Jerry, see you at the wedding.

ReplyDeleteGlad you got to spend time at Bushy Flats. If you ever get lost, call papa and he can tell you the next turn off. He has the whole US mapped out in his head! I suggest however you skip the Slabs- an experience better described than experienced.
ReplyDeleteThat last comment just sounds like a daughter not quite approving of her father's likes and dislikes... I know all about that. Going to try and see if Jerry and I can head over to The Slabs right after the wedding.
DeleteSo sweet. Love the photos of bushy flats and selfie with Papa. :) He is the best RV guide out there; glad you guys were able to learn from the best!
ReplyDeleteOh man this post made me smile! I love how dad referred to it as the "masters program of RVing" miss you guys
ReplyDeleteI have always said there is no better storyteller than Chris Klancic!
